How to use the Splice mobile app
With the Splice mobile app, you can browse, collect, download, and arrange samples from our catalog anywhere, any time using your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Sounds you download on the mobile app will be available across all your devices for a seamless workflow.
If you’re interested in our other mobile app, CoSo, you can learn more here. CoSo serves up sounds that belong together so you can follow your creative instincts while discovering Splice. Swipe your way through billions of musical outcomes, then mix and record your creations.
You can install the app on your iOS device via the App Store, or your Android device via the Google Play store. The current version of the Splice mobile app is supported on iOS/iPadOS 13.6+ and Android 8+.
Navigating the Splice mobile app
The main navigation bar is at the bottom of the screen. You can check out featured packs and collections in the Browse section, or narrow down your search by instrument, genre, or keyword in the Search section. All of your likes, downloads, and recently added samples are in the Library section. Settings and other preferences are available in the Profile section.
Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Profile section to toggle between light and dark modes.
The icon in the center opens up the Beatmaker instrument.
Browsing and downloading samples
To preview a sample, simply tap on it. The overflow menu (three small dots) to the right side of a sample will display a couple of different options.
To add a sample to your library, click on the overflow menu, then select "Add to Library." All the sounds you download on the mobile app will sync to your Splice account, and can be downloaded via the Splice desktop app once you're back at your computer. You cannot purchase presets, midi, or any pack extras from the mobile app currently. If a sample is already in your library, you'll see a "Save to Files" option instead of "Add to Library."
To save a sample directly to your mobile device’s files app, go to your Library (the download icon at the bottom of the app) and click on the overflow menu of the sample you want to save, and click Save to Files. Your sample will be saved to the Splice folder in your Files app.
Accessing downloaded samples
To access your downloaded samples on an iPhone or iPad, navigate to the Files app, and then go to On my Device > Splice > Samples.
*The Files app will often open to your iCloud Drive folder by default, which won't contain your Splice folder- if this happens, you'll need to go back a page, and then go into the "On my Device" folder, which is where the Splice folder automatically gets created.
On Android devices, samples you save to your mobile device will download to Files > Internal Storage > Download > Splice.
Beatmaker
Beatmaker is playable instrument within the Splice mobile app that consists of two different modes: Pads and Sequencer.
Pad mode lets you assign Splice samples to 8 playable pads for real-time playback. To assign a sample to a Beatmaker pad, tap the Beatmaker icon on a sample while browsing for sounds, and then select an empty pad.
The Sequencer instrument takes Pads mode a step further by letting you draw in custom note patterns using the samples you've assigned to the 8 available pads. To switch from Pads mode to Sequencer mode, just tap "sequencer" at the bottom of the Beatmaker screen:
Once you're in the Sequencer, you can draw in a unique pattern, using up to 8 different samples, to create a custom beat. Just tap on a square next to the sample you want to add to your sequence. To remove a note from your sequence, just tap on the square you want to remove.
To change the tempo, click the settings icon in the bottom-right corner. There's also a Clear Pattern button here if you want to start over. Tap the play button in the bottom-left corner to play back your creation.
