The Splice desktop app allows you to access your Sounds library and software in one convenient place to use in sync with your DAW. You'll need to install the app to get started with accessing your subscription features. You can get the latest installer here. Run the installer and the app should be available on your device.
You can access Splice’s entire Sounds marketplace, drag and drop samples directly to your DAW, preview sounds in your DAW’s key and tempo with Bridge, and install Astra, Beatmaker, and Rent-to-Own plugins with ease. Below are the officially supported OSs with the Splice desktop app:
MacOS 10.15+
Windows 10+
Installation Troubleshooting
There are a number of different reasons the Splice application might be failing to install. First, confirm the following:
- Make sure you are running a supported operating system. The current version of the Splice desktop app is compatible with macOS 10.15+ and Windows 10+. We cannot guarantee that the app will install or run on your Mac or PC if you are running an older OSX or version of Windows.
- Check that any network monitoring or anti-virus programs are not blocking the Splice app from installing. More information on how to whitelist applications or disable the software can be found here.
- Delete all previous instances of the splice.dmg or splice.exe installer file before attempting to install the Splice app again. Then download a fresh installer here.
If issues persist, follow these troubleshooting steps depending on which OS you're running:
MacOS
- Make sure your Mac user account has admin privileges. Splice cannot be installed onto a standard user account or a guest account. To confirm your Mac user account has admin privileges, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Make sure you have “Allow this user to administer this computer” selected for the Mac user account you are using the Splice app on.
- If your device uses an M1 chipset, install Rosetta on your computer. The Splice app is only supported on Intel-based devices, so you will need Rosetta to translate the installer. The installer should launch automatically, but if it does not, please follow the Rosetta installation steps here.
- Confirm the Splice app is not already installed on another Mac user account. You can only have the Splice app on one Mac user account at a time.
- Check “App store and identified developers” under your security preferences. Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General and select "App Store and identified developers," under Allow applications downloaded from. You may need to click the "lock" icon and enter your password before adjusting this setting. Then, re-download the installer and install the Splice app.
Windows
- Ensure that the computer user has OS-level permissions to install to the specified location.
- Free up space on the hard drive so there is adequate space.
- Unplug extra hardware. Remove all external storage devices and drives, docks, and other hardware you might have plugged into your device that isn’t needed for basic functionality.
- Repair hard-drive errors. Select the Start button, then in the search box on the taskbar, type “command prompt”. Choose Command Prompt from the list of results. In the window that pops up, type chkdsk/f C: and press the Enter key. Repairs automatically start on your hard drive; then restart your device.
- Confirm that you have the most current version of Microsoft's .NET Framework installed. You can check out the latest version and update if need to here.
- Boot up your PC in Safe Mode with Networking and then try installing while in safe mode. Here are instructions for booting up in safe mode for each version of Windows. If everything is working in safe mode, the issue may have to do with your antivirus software or a firewall.
