How to resolve Serum presets path issues
Updated this week

If you're experiencing issues with Serum presets saving to your Splice presets folder instead of the Xfer presets folder, follow the steps below to resolve this on both macOS and Windows.

For macOS Users:

  1. Open Finder:

    • Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.

  2. Access the File Directly:

    • Press Shift + Command + G to open the "Go to Folder" dialog box.

    • Type ~/Library/Preferences/SerumPrefs.json and press Return.

  3. Open the SerumPrefs.json File:

    • Once the file opens, find the line that reads "Serum Presets Path": " ".

    • Delete the entire line.

  4. Save the File:

    • Press Command + S to save the changes.

  5. Restart Splice and Serum:

    • Close and reopen both Splice and Serum.

    • When you download new Serum presets, they should now go to the Xfer Serum folder.

  6. Move Existing Presets:

    • For any presets that are in your Splice folder and not the Xfer folder, you'll need to drag them over manually.

    • The default Xfer Serum preset path is:

      Mac: [user]/Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/Serum Presets/Presets

After following the steps above, new presets should save to the proper folder automatically.

For Windows Users:

  1. Open File Explorer:

    • Click on the File Explorer icon in the taskbar or press Win + E on your keyboard.

  2. Access the File Directly:

    • In the address bar, type C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Xfer\Serum\Presets\SerumPrefs.json and press Enter.

    • Replace YourUsername with your actual Windows username.

  3. Open the SerumPrefs.json File:

    • Once the file opens in your default text editor, find the line that reads "Serum Presets Path": " ".

    • Delete the entire line.

  4. Save the File:

    • Press Ctrl + S to save the changes.

      Windows: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Xfer\Serum Presets\

After following the steps above, new presets should save to the proper folder automatically.

By following these steps for your respective operating system, you can ensure that new Serum presets are downloaded to the correct folder. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please contact our support team.
