Using the Spitfire Audio app while on Rent-to-Own

Updated yesterday

The Spitfire Audio App is where you can download, install, update, and manage your libraries. This guide walks you through key features and functions.

🔍 Finding Your Library

When you open the app, head to the “Not Installed” tab to find any libraries available for download. You can also use the search bar in the top right corner to search by name.

At the top of the app, you’ll see the email address you're currently logged in with. If you can't find your library, double-check that you're logged into the correct account—the one used to make the purchase.

🔄 Checking for Updates

Any available updates for your installed libraries will appear in the “Updates” tab.

💾 Installing Your Library

When you click Install, you’ll see where the library will be saved. This will default to your set Content Path, but you can change it:

  1. Click the folder icon to browse for a different location (e.g., an external drive).

  2. Ensure you have enough free space in the chosen location before clicking Download.

⚠️ External Drive Warning

If you’re using an external drive formatted as ExFAT, the app may show a warning encouraging you to reformat to an OS-specific format:

  • APFS for macOS

  • NTFS for Windows

You do not need to reformat. Click “Use anyway” to continue—but note that loading times or performance may be affected.

⚙️ Settings & File Locations

In the Settings tab, you can:

  • Change your default content path

  • View default file paths for plugin formats (VST, AU, AAX, etc.)

Note:

  • Plugin file formats are small and will all download regardless of your DAW.

  • Most plugin paths are fixed and based on your DAW’s defaults—you can only change them if your DAW supports custom paths.

🛠 Troubleshooting Tools

Also under Settings, you’ll find a Troubleshooting section where you can easily access and send diagnostic files if requested by support.

🧰 Library Management Options

Click on a library’s artwork to view available actions:

  • Repair – Resolves plugin errors or re-authorizes a library on a new machine or drive.

  • Locate – Relinks a library that’s been moved on the same machine.
See our guide on moving libraries →

  • Reset – Makes the library available to download again. You can reset the full library or just the latest update.

  • Optimise – This feature is deprecated and no longer needed.
