Accessing free Splice samples in Ableton Live 12.3 Beta

Updated this week

Note: The Splice integration is only available in Ableton Live 12.3 — now in Beta. To join the beta, follow the steps in Ableton’s Live Beta FAQ

The Splice Ableton Live integration includes access to a wide variety of free, royalty-free samples that you can license without an active Splice subscription. All you need is a free Splice account, which you can create here.

How to Find Free Samples

While browsing samples within the Ableton Live integration, use the Included filter to narrow your results to free content only. This will help you quickly find samples that don’t require a subscription to use.

The filter will have the Ableton Live icon under search results, and you'll see the included tag in green under the samples like so:

Licensing and Usage

All Splice samples are royalty-free, whether downloaded through a subscription or from the free catalog. You can also generate a certified license for any sample by following the steps outlined here.

A Note on Search with Sound

When using the Search with Sound feature, please note that it’s currently not possible to filter results to only show free samples. Since most of Splice’s catalog requires a subscription, your search results will likely include premium content. The AI behind this feature prioritizes compatibility and similarity over licensing type.
