Using Warp and Timestretch with Splice in Ableton Live 12.3 Beta

Updated yesterday

Note: The Splice integration is only available in Ableton Live 12.3 — now in Beta. To join the beta, follow the steps in Ableton’s Live Beta FAQ

The Splice panel in Ableton Live 12.3 (beta) lets you preview and drag in samples without leaving your project. Loops can automatically sync to your project’s tempo, making it easier to stay creative in the flow.

Enable or Disable Time-Stretching in Splice

  1. Open the Splice panel inside Ableton Live 12.3 (beta).

  2. Preview a sample. You’ll see a BPM icon next to the play bar.

  3. Click the BPM icon to toggle time-stretching on or off.

    • On → The sample will preview in sync with your Live set’s tempo.

    • Off → The sample will play at its original tempo.

Warp Behavior When Using Splice

Warp in Live follows the time-stretch setting in the Splice panel:

  • Time-stretch ON (BPM icon active) → When you drag a sample into Live, Warp is enabled so the sample locks to your project’s tempo.

  • Time-stretch OFF (BPM icon inactive) → The sample is imported with Warp disabled and plays at its original tempo.

When Warp is enabled, Live sets it up as follows:

  • A Warp Marker is placed at the very start of the file.

  • Looping is enabled automatically.

  • The loop brace spans the full length of the sample.
