Splice’s Search with Sound feature is available in Ableton Live 12.3 — now in Beta. This tool helps you quickly discover compatible sounds for your project by analyzing audio or MIDI you already have in your session.
How to Use Search with Sound
Drag in Audio: Drop an audio file directly into the Search with Sound window.
Capture Audio: Highlight a section in your Ableton Live 12.3 (Beta) session and click to capture it.
Find Matching Sounds: Splice will instantly suggest the most compatible sounds from its catalog.
Refine Your Search: Use the available filters to narrow down results and audition sounds in sync with your project.
You can use Search with Sound on a single loop, or across multiple audio and MIDI tracks for more complex sound matching.
Things to Keep in Mind
Results Limit: Search with Sound currently returns up to 50 results at a time. You can refine further with Splice’s built-in filters.
Free vs. Premium Sounds: At the moment, it’s not possible to filter results to only show free samples. Since most of Splice’s catalog requires a subscription, expect to see premium content in your results.
How Results Are Chosen: The AI behind Search with Sound prioritizes compatibility and similarity over licensing type.
