The migration flow for LABS users into Splice INSTRUMENT is as seamless as it can be. When you first open INSTRUMENT, it will prompt you to import your LABS content which you can do following the steps below.
Within your DAW, nothing will change. We do not want to break your existing projects, so they will all still load with the LABS plugin and will not be automatically replaced. This does mean that if you want to change an existing project to use INSTRUMENT, you'll need to manually replace the plugin on each track and load the corresponding preset.
Importing Content from LABS
If opening INSTRUMENT for the first time on a device where LABS has previously been installed, you'll be presented with this screen asking you to import your LABS content that was found by the plugin.
You can also access this at any time through the Preferences menu.
The content found on your device will be presented to you before you import. If you want to choose a different location to import content from, click the "Change Folder" button. You can always run the import process again so don't worry about getting everything in one location.
You will see a progress indicator while the import process runs.
Once finished, you'll see the results of what content was imported successfully as well as any packs that failed to import.
Once your content is imported, you can load it just like any other pack in INSTRUMENT through the Library page: Where do I find my Library?
LABS Importing Frequently Asked Questions
What version of LABS content can be imported?
Any content installed for LABS 1.0 (white plugin from the Spitfire Audio App) or LABS 2.0+ (green plugin) can be imported.
Will my packs continue to work in the LABS plugin?
Yes! We have no desire to break your active projects so the LABS plugin will continue to read the same content and your projects will be unaffected.
Are there any packs that can’t be migrated into INSTRUMENT?
Legacy packs that have since been discontinued cannot be imported. This includes:
LABS Wurli
LABS Sleigh Bells
Why can’t I import any LABS+ packs?
In order to import LABS+ content you must have an active plan within INSTRUMENT, through either the INSTRUMENT or Creator/Creator+ plans. If you still have a LABS+ plan and need help getting moved over to INSTRUMENT please contact our support team.
Why did the import process fail?
The import can fail if you don't have enough space in your content location to store all of the imported content, as it is all moved into this location.
If you're importing from within the same drive, keep in mind that the content has to first be copied to the new location, then imported, then removed from the old location which means you may need twice the available space in order to do the import This is especially relevant if you're on Windows.
Why am I seeing my content listed as Excluded?
When the plugin scans your content for importing, it also compares against it's own internal knowledge of what it has available. If it finds any content that is already installed in the plugin then it will be excluded from export. Additionally any content that is from LABS+ will not be imported if you do not have access to INSTRUMENT premium content through an INSTRUMENT, Creator, or Creator+ plan.
Subscriptions between INSTRUMENT and LABS+
While the content transition is seamless, moving your subscription to the INSTRUMENT plan may cause a bit more confusion.
Having a LABS+ subscription does not allow you to access that content within INSTRUMENT, and having an INSTRUMENT plan does not allow you to access that content within LABS; they are strictly two separate services.
This means that in order to move from your LABS+ subscription to INSTRUMENT, you'll need to keep a few things in mind:
Your current projects/tracks using the LABS plugin will still play back just fine and respond to automation after cancelling your LABS subscription.
If you wish to use new tracks with LABS+ content, you should load the INSTRUMENT plugin instead where you can continue to tweak, modify, and download new content.
If you are having issues getting LABS to play back your tracks after cancelling your subscription, please reach out to our support team.
In order to actually change your subscription, you'll need to cancel your LABS subscription and then start a new plan through Splice for either the INSTRUMENT or Creator/Creator+ plan. If you are having issues with this process please contact our support team.
