How do I create a new Stack using my own loop?
Updated over a week ago

This article is about using Create mode to generate new song ideas (Stacks) using your own uploaded loops. For more general info about using Create/Stacks, including details about saving/exporting/managing your Stacks, please see this article.

Q: How do I upload my own loops to use with Create?

A: First, navigate to Create mode by selecting Create on the left menu bar of the Splice website. Then switch the slider to "Start with your loop:”

From there, you can drag a loop directly into the upload box, or browse for one via Finder / File Explorer. Please scroll down for more information on which types of loops will work best with Create.

Once it's uploaded, you can confirm the primary instrument of your loop, and specify a genre for your new Stack. If you want to hear compatible loops regardless of genre, simply leave the “all genres” option selected. Splice AI will auto-detect the BPM and key of your loop.

• Selecting will generate a blank Stack that consists only of your loop. You can then use the empty gray layers below your loop to add new loops-- just select an instrument, and Splice's AI will find a loop in our library that's compatible with yours.

• Selectand Splice's AI will generate a complete Stack, using your original loop as a "seed layer" to find compatible loops from our catalog.

Here's a video walkthrough on uploading your own loops to Create:

Q: Are there any limitations for which types of loops I can upload?

A: Yes-- your loops must be:

• Exactly 1, 2, 4 or 8 bars

• Less than 30 seconds
• Under 10MB

• A stereo or mono pcm MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A, or AAC file

• In an even meter (e.g. 4/4 time signature)

Additional technical info on supported file formats:
• Stereo or mono pcm WAV and AIFF (16-bit int, 24-bit int, 32-bit int or 32-bit IEEE float)

• MP3: MPEG-1 Layer III (sample rates: 32000 Hz, 44100 Hz, 48000 Hz)

• MPEG-2 Layer III is not supported (mp3 with sample rates below 32000 Hz)

• AAC or HE-AAC in M4A container (iTunes) or ADTS container (.aac)

Q: The results sound too random. How do I limit my Stacks to the specific genre I had in mind for my loop?

A: New Stacks created using your uploaded loops will be set to "All genres" mode by default, meaning Splice's AI will search for our most-compatible loops without respect to genre. To limit a Stack to a specific genre, use the genre dropdown menu (note: changing the genre will reset the current Stack and generate a brand new one):

Q: Can I delete the original loop that I uploaded from a Stack?

A: Yes-- clicking the button on that layer will enable you to delete your uploaded loop from the current Stack. In order to upload a new loop, you’ll need to start a new Stack (see below).

Q: How do I start a new Stack with a new uploaded loop?

A: You can either:

• Click the “start over” button in the top-left corner of the Stack editor

• Click the button on your uploaded loop, and then click "start over."

Q: Will my uploaded loops be used as AI training data, or shared with anyone else?

A: No. Uploaded audio is used exclusively to help you find compatible sounds on Splice. We will never:

  • use your sounds to train AI models

  • share your sounds with other users on Splice

Q: What happens to my uploaded loops if I cancel my Splice subscription?

A: If you cancel your subscription, your uploaded sounds will be deleted from Splice, and removed from relevant Stacks, once your final billing period ends. Want to know more? See our Terms of Use.
