Where is the content from Splice INSTRUMENT stored and how do I customize the folder location?

Often times you'll want to store the sample content in a different location than the default, this guide will show you how to change that content path within the plugin.

If you're just getting started with INSTRUMENT, make sure you check out "How to install Splice INSTRUMENT"

Once you have Splice INSTRUMENT installed on your device and launched before completing the following steps.

  1. Navigate to "Preferences" by clicking the account logo in the bottom left

Navigation menu in Splice INSTRUMENT with “Preferences” highlighted.
  2. Then under "Content", select the path where you'd like your content to be installed

Moving existing content

  1. If you have any content installed when setting your content location, you will be prompted to move this content to the new location.

“Move All Content” dialog warns that repair-needed content won’t move and INSTRUMENT will be unavailable during the move; Cancel and blue Move buttons appear below.

  2. Once you click "Move", the process will begin and you will see a progress bar.

  3. Once the process finishes, you'll see the "Complete" window. After this please restart your DAW or reload all instances of the Splice INSTRUMENT plugin, as otherwise you will not get any sound playing back from the plugin.

Dark software dialog titled “Move All Content” confirms files moved to a user folder ending in “/Splice/Instrument,” with a full green progress bar and “Content Moved” status.

Errors when moving

The following error may appear when moving your content.

Move All Content failure: Not enough space at destination. Free up some space and try again.

This will happen if your new location does not have enough free space to hold the content. This can occur even if you're moving content within the same drive, as in order to ensure safety when moving the plugin will first copy the content to the new location, then delete from the old location once everything is transferred without errors. Please be sure that you have enough space available on the drive that you're moving your content to in order to avoid this issue.

Choosing a folder

We recommend that you choose a top level folder, as the content inside will all be contained within their own individual folders. For example, if you choose a more generic folder called "Samples" that contains other content, then inside you'll see something like this:

However if you create a folder called "Splice INSTRUMENT" for your content, then it will be nicely organized like this:
