The Splice Sounds plugin allows you to browse, license, organize, and use Splice samples directly inside your DAW. Follow this guide to install, log in, and start working with your sounds.
1. Finding the Plugin in Your DAW
After installation, locate the plugin in your DAW under the name Splice Sounds.
It will appear in one of the following formats depending on your operating system and DAW:
AU
VST3
AAX
Load the plugin on any track to begin.
2. Logging In
When you first launch the plugin:
You’ll be prompted to log in, which will open your web browser.
The browser will confirm a device code for the plugin.
If you’re already logged in at splice.com, you’ll see a confirmation message saying “Your device is now connected.”
If you’re not logged in, you’ll be prompted to sign in on splice.com before the device can be authorized.
Note: If you have multiple accounts, ensure you’re logged into the correct one at
splice.com/profile/settings. The account logged in on the website is the same one the plugin will use.
3. Searching for Sounds
Catalog Search
In the Home tab of the Splice Sounds plugin, you can search the full Splice catalog using the search bar or by applying preset filters such as Instruments, Genres, and Cinematic FX.
Search with Sound
Search with Sound allows you to find sonically compatible samples by using your own audio. You can either drag an audio file into the plugin or capture audio directly from your DAW. The plugin will analyze it and return matching results.
Describe a Sound (Beta)
The Describe a Sound feature lets you search using natural-language descriptions—such as “dark ambient pad with shimmer” or “tight 90s house hi-hat.” To use it, toggle on Describe a Sound.

4. Licensing Sounds
To license a sample:
Find a sound you like in the Splice catalog.
Click the + icon to the right of the sample.
Once the icon changes to a check mark, the sound is licensed and synced to your machine.
After licensing, you can:
Drag and drop the sample directly into your DAW.
Click the three dots next to the sample to:
Copy to clipboard (copy the audio file)
Show enclosing folder (reveal the file on your computer)
5. Creating Variations
After licensing a sample, you can create unique Variations in the Splice Sounds plugin.
Generate Variations
Hover over a licensed sample, click the blue sparkle icon, and select Create Variations. The plugin will generate five unique variations.Customize Variations (Optional)
Use Customize to adjust harmony, rhythm, or specific pitches for more control over the output.Preview and Use
Preview variations in the plugin, then drag and drop any into your DAW. To find the files on your computer, click the three dots next to a variation and select Go to folder.

6. Liking Sounds
To like a sound:
Hover over the sample.
Click the heart icon.
To access your liked sounds:
Go to the Library tab at the top of the plugin.
Under Your library, select Likes.
7. Creating Collections
Collections let you organize your favorite samples into custom groups.
To add a sample to a collection:
Click the three dots next to the sample.
Select Add to collection.
You can:
Add the sample to an existing collection
Create a new collection using the New collection button
Click See all… to view all of your collections if you have multiple
