About the Splice Sounds plugin
What is the Splice Sounds plugin?
The Splice Sounds plugin is a universal, DAW-compatible plugin (VST3, AU) that brings the Splice sound library directly into your session. You can search, audition, and download samples without breaking your creative flow, and browse and use samples and presets directly in the plugin.
The plugin also includes Search with Sound, Variations, and Drum Pads, which help you explore new creative ideas:
Search with Sound: Upload a loop to find compatible sounds on Splice.
Variations: Generate unique versions of Splice samples in any key or tempo using ethical AI, while original creators are still compensated.
Drum Pads: Starting with v0.13.0 of the Splice Sounds plugin, you can build custom drum kits using sounds from the Splice catalog.
How is the Splice Sounds plugin different from Splice’s DAW integrations for Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and Studio One?
The Splice Sounds plugin brings core Splice features, including browsing and Search with Sound, into any DAW. Splice’s native integrations for Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and Fender Studio One are built specifically for those DAWs and offer a deeper, more seamless experience.

Variations: licensing and creator compensation
Are Variations of my licensed Splice sample royalty-free?

How do I generate a certified license for a Variation?
Variations are automatically covered by the copyright license of the original sample.
You can use them in the same way as any Splice sample under our Terms of Use. Click here to learn how to generate a certified license for your sample.
Do the artists who made the original sample get paid for Variations?
Yes. Variations are built on licensed Splice samples, and the original creator is compensated when their sound is used. Each Variation you license by spending a credit contributes toward the sample creator’s payment from Splice.
Splice’s approach to Variations is designed to ensure human creators are rewarded as their work is explored, transformed, and used—consistent with our broader commitment to ethical AI and creator fairness.
Do Variations replace human-made samples on Splice?
No. Variations is designed to extend the creative value of human-made samples—not replace them. All Splice samples are human-made, so every Variation starts from a sound created by a real person.
Privacy and AI training
Is Variations trained on user projects or personal data?
No. Variations is trained on licensed, royalty-free content and does not use user projects or personal data to train models.
What happens to my audio when I use Search with Sound?
Your sounds are safe with Splice. Uploaded loops are used exclusively to help you find compatible sounds on Splice. We will never use your loops to train AI models or share your loops with other Splice users. See our Terms of Use.
