How to use the "Describe a Sound" feature in the Splice Sounds plugin — now in Beta

Updated this week

Please note, as this is a Beta product, we are slowly rolling out new features to a small portion of users to collect feedback and control quality. If you don't currently have access to Describe a Sound, stay tuned!

Exclusively in the Splice Sounds plugin beta, our new Describe a Sound feature lets you find the perfect sample using natural-language descriptions. You can type what you’re looking for—like “dark ambient pad with shimmer” or “tight 90s house hi-hat”—and the plugin will return samples that match your description.

To use it, simply toggle on Describe a Sound in the Splice Sounds plugin and describe your sound.

Current Limitations

Since Describe a Sound is in Beta, there are a few limitations to be aware of:

  • No filters (e.g., loops vs. one-shots, genre, instrument, or key)

  • No sorting options

  • No shuffle feature

  • Maximum of 50 results per search

We Want Your Feedback

We’re actively building and improving Describe a Sound, and your feedback is crucial. If you have ideas, suggestions, or notice any quirks, please share them here.

Your input will help us make the feature even more powerful and intuitive.
