What is the Splice Sounds plugin?
The Splice Sounds plugin (currently in beta) is a universal, DAW-compatible tool (VST3, AU) that brings Splice’s entire sound library directly into your session, so you can search, audition, and grab sounds without breaking creative flow. It also introduces Variations for the first time - using ethical AI to generate unique versions of any Splice sample in any key or tempo, while ensuring original creators are still compensated.

Can I download entire packs and multiple samples at once in the Splice Sounds plugin?
Currently, the plugin supports licensing samples one by one, with a focus on in-DAW sound discovery. To download entire packs or multiple samples at once, you can use the Splice Desktop App or website, then find those samples in your library in the Splice Sounds plugin.
How is this plugin different from Splice’s DAW integrations with Ableton, Pro Tools, and Studio One?
The Splice Sounds plugin brings core Splice functionality into any DAW, including browsing and Search with Sound, but our native DAW integrations with Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and Fender Studio One offer a deeper, more seamless experience built specifically for those environments.
This beta also introduces new experimental features—like Variations and Describe a Sound—that are exclusive to the plugin.
Are the Variations of my licensed Splice sample also royalty-free?
Yes. Variations are royalty-free and covered by the same license as the original sample. You can use them just like any other Splice sample under our Terms of Use.
How do I generate a certified license for Variations?
Variations are automatically covered by the copyright license of the original sample. You can use them in the same way as any Splice sample under our Terms of Use. Click here to learn how to generate a certified license for your sample.
Do artists who made the original sample get paid for the Variations?
Yes. Variations are built on top of licensed Splice samples, and the original creator is compensated when their sound is used. Splice’s approach to Variations is designed to ensure human creators are rewarded as their work is explored, transformed, and used - consistent with our broader commitment to ethical AI and creator fairness.
Is Variations trained on user projects or personal data?
No. Variations is trained on licensed, royalty-free content and does not use user projects or personal data to train models.
Is Variations replacing human-made samples on Splice?
No. Variations is designed to extend the creative value of human-made samples - not replace them. All Splice samples are human-made, so every Variation starts from a sound created by a real person.
If I use “Search with Sound,” what happens with my audio?
Your sounds are safe with Splice. Uploaded loops are used exclusively to help you find compatible sounds on Splice. We will never use your loops to train AI models or share your loops with other Splice users. See our Terms of Use.
