If samples won't drag from the Splice browser into your Ableton Live set — the drag fails, nothing lands on the track, or Live shows a file error — the cause is usually a permissions issue preventing Ableton Live from accessing your User Library, where Splice samples are stored.
Follow the instructions below to resolve the issue, depending on your operator system:
Fixing drag and drop on macOS
Step 1: Locate your Ableton User Library
By default, the User Library is at ~/Music/Ableton/User Library
Open Finder.
Click Go > Go to Folder.
Paste the path above and press Return.
If you've moved your User Library, find its current location under Ableton Live > Settings > Library > Location of User Library.
Step 2: Give Ableton Live Full Disk Access
Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
Make sure Ableton Live is toggled on.
If Ableton Live isn't listed, click + and add it.

Step 3: Check the User Library folder permissions
Right-click the User Library folder and select Get Info.
Under Sharing & Permissions, make sure your user account is set to Read & Write.
Repeat for the Ableton folder one level above.
Restart Ableton Live and drag a sample from the Splice browser again. The sample should land on your track and play back normally.
Fixing drag and drop on Windows
Step 1: Locate your Ableton User Library
By default, the User Library is at %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Ableton\User Library Paste this path into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter.
If you've moved your User Library, find its current location under Ableton Live > Settings > Library > Location of User Library.
Step 2: Check the User Library folder permissions
Right-click the User Library folder and select Properties > Security.
Select your Windows user account.
Make sure Read and Write are allowed. If they aren't, click Edit and enable Full control.
Repeat for the Ableton folder one level above.
Step 3: Make sure Ableton Live isn't running as administrator
When Ableton Live runs as administrator, Windows can block drag and drop between it and other apps.
Right-click the Ableton Live shortcut and select Properties.
Open the Compatibility tab.
Make sure Run this program as an administrator is unchecked.
Restart Ableton Live and drag a sample from the Splice browser again. The sample should land on your track and play back normally.
