How to resolve drag and drop Issues in the Splice Ableton Live Integration

Learn how to fix drag and drop issues with samples in the Splice Ableton Live integration by checking User Library permissions, Full Disk Access on macOS, and Ableton Live permissions on Windows.

If you're unable to drag samples from the Splice integration into Ableton Live, this is usually caused by permissions preventing Ableton from accessing your User Library.

Follow the steps below for your operating system.

macOS

1. Open your Ableton User Library

By default, the User Library is located at:

~/Music/Ableton/User Library

To open it directly:

  1. Open Finder.

  2. Click Go > Go to Folder.

  3. Paste the path above and press Return.

If you've changed your User Library location, check Ableton Live > Settings/Preferences > Library > Location of User Library.

2. Give Ableton Live Full Disk Access

  1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.

  2. Make sure Ableton Live is enabled.

  3. If it isn't listed, click + and add it.

3. Check the folder permissions

  1. Right-click the User Library folder and select Get Info.

  2. Under Sharing & Permissions, make sure your user account is set to Read & Write.

  3. Check the Ableton folder one level above and make sure it also has Read & Write access.

Restart Ableton Live and try dragging the sample again.

Windows

1. Open your Ableton User Library

By default, the User Library is located at:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Ableton\User Library

Paste this path into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter.

If you've changed your User Library location, check Ableton Live > Settings/Preferences > Library > Location of User Library.

2. Check the folder permissions

  1. Right-click User Library and select Properties > Security.

  2. Select your Windows user account.

  3. Make sure Read and Write are allowed.

If they aren't, click Edit and enable Full control.

Repeat this check for the Ableton folder one level above.

3. Make sure Ableton isn't running as administrator

  1. Right-click the Ableton Live shortcut and select Properties.

  2. Open the Compatibility tab.

  3. Make sure Run this program as an administrator is not checked.

Restart Ableton Live and try dragging the sample again.
