This article applies to the following Spitfire Audio plugins rented through Splice:
BBC Symphony Orchestra Professional
Abbey Road Two: Iconic Strings Professional
Solar: BBC Radiophonic Workshop
If you're renting one of these plugins and see a “Something went wrong” error, here’s how to resolve it based on the error number, starting with the most common:
Error #9 — License expired
This means your license has expired—typically because the Splice Desktop App hasn’t been open in more than three days and couldn’t refresh the license.
To fix it, please complete the following steps in order:
Fully quit the Splice Desktop App (if open).
Close your DAW.
Relaunch Splice and log into the account with the active Spitfire Audio subscription.
Open your DAW and launch the plugin.
Still not working?
Close your DAW completely.
Reinstall the Splice Desktop App: Download here
Log out of Splice, then log back in to generate a fresh license.
Reopen your DAW and launch the plugin.
Note: Make sure your antivirus, firewall, or VPN isn’t blocking Splice or Spitfire Audio, as this can prevent proper license syncing.
Error #1 — License file missing
This error likely means the plugin cannot find the required license file, which could be due to a variety of reasons depending on your lease status:
Step 1: Check your lease status
Visit your Plans page.
Find your Spitfire Audio lease and confirm its status:
Active – You're still renting it.
Owned – You've fully paid it off.
Payment Failed or Cancelled – Your lease is inactive.
Step 2: Follow the instructions based on your lease status
If your lease is Active:
Quit the Splice Desktop App.
Close your DAW.
Reopen Splice and log into the correct account.
Open your DAW and launch the plugin.
If the issue continues:
Repair the plugin in the Spitfire Audio app.
Reinstall the Splice Desktop App.
Log out and back into Splice to regenerate the license file.
Relaunch your DAW.
If your lease is Owned:
Please contact the Splice Support team for help manually activating the plugin. Click the “HELP” icon on the right-hand side of this page to reach out.
If your lease is inactive:
Your access to the plugin has been suspended. To restore it:
Visit your Plans page.
Update your payment method and resubscribe to reactivate the lease.
Error #10 — Serial key entered incorrectly
This error occurs if the serial key was entered incorrectly.
Please verify your serial key here: Your Plugins on Splice
Re-enter the serial key exactly as shown.
