How to download Splice samples in Ableton Live 12.3 Beta

Updated yesterday

Note: The Splice integration is only available in Ableton Live 12.3 — now in Beta. To join the beta, follow the steps in Ableton’s Live Beta FAQ

How do I download a Splice sample in Ableton Live?

Once you’ve found a Splice sample you’d like to use in Ableton Live, click and hold on the sample, then drag and drop it from the Splice interface into Live.

  • You can drop samples into an audio or MIDI track in both Session View and Arrangement View.

  • You can also drag samples directly into native Ableton devices such as Sampler, Simpler, Drum Rack, or Impulse.

⚠️ Note: Dragging samples directly from Splice into Max for Live devices or third-party plug-ins is not supported. To use Splice samples there, first drag them onto a track in Live.

When you add a sample, it’s automatically licensed and saved to your Splice library.

Where do my Splice samples download to?

Splice samples in Ableton Live are saved to the User Library in this folder:

User Library > Samples > Splice

By default, the User Library is located here:

  • Windows: \Users\[username]\Documents\Ableton\User Library

  • Mac: Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Music/Ableton/User Library

You can change the User Library location by:

  1. Open Ableton > Settings > Library

  2. Under Location of User Library, click Browse

  3. Select your new folder and click Open

Once set, your Splice samples will appear in Samples > Splice inside the custom User Library location

Can I drag and drop Splice samples from the Splice Desktop App into Ableton Live?

Yes. Any sample you license through Splice can be dragged and dropped from the Splice Desktop App directly into Ableton Live.

If I download a sample on the Splice website or mobile app, will it show up in Ableton Live?

Yes. Any sample you download outside of Ableton Live will also be added to your Splice library, which you can access directly inside the integration.

Additionally, samples downloaded in Ableton Live will sync to your library across the Splice Desktop App, website, and mobile app.

How can I generate a certified license for the samples I download in Ableton Live?

You can generate a certified license for any sample you download from Splice, either on the Splice website or in the Splice Desktop App. Please see our guide here: How do I generate a certified license for my samples?
