If sounds fail to download or sync in the Splice desktop app on your Mac, work through the fixes below in order. Most download issues are resolved by reinstalling the app, clearing the app cache, or fixing folder permissions.
Before proceeding: If you have Bridge-modified Splice samples in your projects, they are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/com.splice.Splice/modified. Clearing the app cache (step 3) deletes this folder, so copy any modified samples you want to keep to another location first.
1. Reinstall the Splice desktop app
Uninstall the Splice desktop app by quitting out of the app and dragging it from your applications folder into the trash.
Download the latest installer from splice.com/download and install it.
2. Check your internet connection and VPN
Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
If you're using a VPN or proxy, turn it off temporarily and try downloading again.
If possible, connect to a different Wi-Fi network or a mobile hotspot to rule out your network.
3. Clear the Splice app cache
Important: This step deletes any modified samples stored in the modified folder. Back them up before continuing.
Quit the Splice desktop app.
Open Finder and press Shift + Cmd + G.
Paste
~/Library/Application Support/com.splice.Spliceand press Return. If you have modified samples you want to keep, copy the modified folder somewhere safe, such as your Desktop.
Delete the entire com.splice.Splice folder.
Restart your Mac, then relaunch the Splice desktop app.
The Splice desktop app will rebuild its cache on launch. Try downloading a sample again.
4. Grant write permissions to your Splice folder
In the Splice desktop app, click the icon in the top right, open Preferences, and click Go to folder to open your Splice folder in Finder. If you’re not sure which folder the app is using, see Where is my Splice folder?
Right-click the folder and select Get Info.
Under Sharing & Permissions, set your Mac user account to Read & Write.
Repeat steps 2–3 for every parent folder in the file path above your Splice folder.
Once your account has Read & Write access to the full path, relaunch the Splice desktop app and try downloading again.
5. Give the Splice desktop app Full Disk Access
Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
Click the lock and enter your password if prompted.
If Splice is listed, turn its switch on. If it isn't listed, click +, select Splice from your Applications folder, and make sure its switch is on.
Quit and reopen the Splice desktop app for the change to take effect.
6. Allow the Splice desktop app through the macOS firewall
Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions of macOS) > Network > Firewall.
If the firewall is on, click Options.
Find Splice in the list and set it to Allow incoming connections. If Splice isn't listed, click +, select Splice from your Applications folder, and set it to Allow incoming connections.
Click OK, then try downloading again.
7. Check antivirus and network monitoring software
Confirm that antivirus or network monitoring software isn't blocking the Splice desktop app. See What should I do if my antivirus is interfering with the Splice app? for instructions on whitelisting the app.
