Why won’t the Splice desktop app open on Mac?

Fixes for the Splice desktop app not launching or loading properly on Mac, including the “Hold up, something’s not right...” error.

If the Splice desktop app won’t open or load properly on your Mac, or you see the “Hold up, something’s not right...” error when you launch it, work through the steps below in order.

1. Force quit Splice

  1. Press Command (⌘) + Option + Esc to open the Force Quit window.

  2. Select Splice and click Force Quit.

  3. Reopen Splice.

If Splice opens normally, you’re all set. If it still won’t open, continue to the next step.

2. Clear the Splice Application Support folder

The Splice desktop app stores settings and cache files in your Application Support folder. If any of those files are corrupted, the app can fail to launch. Splice rebuilds this folder the next time you open the app.

Important: The com.splice.Splice folder contains any sample files you’ve modified in the Splice desktop app. Those files are permanently deleted with the folder and can’t be recovered. Before continuing, copy any modified samples you want to keep to a different location on your Mac.

  1. Open Finder.

  2. Press Shift (⇧) + Command (⌘) + G to open the Go to Folder window.

  3. Copy and paste the following path exactly, then press Return:
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.splice.Splice

  4. Move the entire com.splice.Splice folder to the Trash.

3. Restart your Mac

After deleting the folder, restart your Mac so the changes take effect, then open Splice.

4. Allow Splice through the macOS firewall

If the macOS firewall is blocking Splice, the app may open and then fail to load.

  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions of macOS) and go to Network > Firewall.

  2. If the firewall is off, skip to the next step. If it’s on, click Options….

  3. In the list of apps, make sure Splice is set to Allow incoming connections.

    • If Splice isn’t listed, click the + button, select Splice from your Applications folder, and click Add. Then set it to Allow incoming connections.

  4. Click OK and reopen Splice.

5. Check your internet connection and VPN or proxy

  • Make sure you have a stable internet connection.

  • If you’re using a VPN or proxy, temporarily disable it and try opening Splice again.

  • If possible, connect to a different Wi‑Fi network or a mobile hotspot to rule out a network issue.

6. Check for conflicting software

If Splice stopped opening after you installed something new, that software may be interfering with it. The most common culprits are other audio software, security apps with aggressive settings, and system utilities. Try disabling or uninstalling anything you installed recently, then open Splice again.

7. Give Splice Full Disk Access

Splice needs permission to read and write files on your Mac. Without it, the app can fail to launch or get stuck on startup.

  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences) and go to Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.

  2. Click the lock icon and enter your password if prompted.

  3. If Splice is listed, turn its switch on. If it isn’t listed, click the + button, select Splice from your Applications folder, and turn its switch on.

  4. If Splice was open, quit and reopen it so the change takes effect.
